The new-generation Honda WR-V marks a significant departure from the previous model, adopting a more crossover-oriented silhouette and an expanded feature set. Initially unveiled in Indonesia in 2022, the updated model is based on Honda’s Amaze platform and incorporates design cues from the SUV RS concept. While the older model in India was derived from the Jazz, the new generation is structurally different and now shares components with other models in Honda’s global lineup. The updated WR-V is expected to enter the Indian market in the near future, positioned within the compact SUV segment.
The upcoming WR-V is expected to be priced from approximately ₹8 lakh (ex-showroom). While variant-specific pricing and configuration details for the Indian market are not available, the SUV is likely to be offered in multiple trims with varying feature sets if launched.
While the second-gen WR-V was launched in November 2022 in Indonesia, it is yet to arrive on Indian shores. It was initially expected to launch in the country in 2023. At present, there is no official word regarding an Indian launch.
Globally, the new WR-V is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine developing 121PS and 145Nm of torque. This engine is coupled to a CVT automatic gearbox. The same powertrain is also offered in the fifth-generation Honda City. For the Indian market, Honda may also consider offering the 1.2-litre petrol engine currently used in the outgoing version to comply with sub-4 metre tax regulations, although no official confirmation has been made. The SUV is not expected to offer a diesel engine option in this generation.
The design of the new WR-V follows a crossover template with a slightly larger footprint compared to its predecessor. It features a more upright stance, increased ground clearance, and styling elements that reflect Honda’s current design direction.
The cabin is upholstered in a leather and fabric combination with red contrast stitching and the driver is treated with a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SUV features automatic climate control and gets a seven-inch infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is a 4.2-inch TFT cluster for the driver. Owners can further access the Honda Connect suite of features, including geofencing, security alarm detection, remote vehicle control, and more.
The new Honda WR-V is expected to compete directly with popular subcompact and compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and Toyota Urban Cruiser.
