BMW M2: Launch Date
The new-generation BMW M2 was officially launched in India on June 8, 2023. Globally, the model continues BMW’s tradition of compact M cars, following in the footsteps of the acclaimed 1M Coupe and the previous M2 Competition.
BMW M2: Variants & Colours
In India, the M2 is offered in one variant, powered by the 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol engine. Buyers can choose from multiple colour options, including Zandvoort Blue, Black Sapphire, Brooklyn Grey, and Toronto Red. Each shade complements the M2’s aggressive styling, giving it a distinct identity on the road.
BMW M2: Specs & Features
The coupe comes equipped with a host of premium and performance-focused features. Inside, it gets a dual curved display with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 14.9-inch infotainment screen powered by BMW’s latest iDrive interface. Standard equipment includes adaptive LED headlights, M-specific design touches, and sport seats with extensive bolstering. Optional M Carbon racing seats further elevate the track-ready feel. The cabin integrates high-quality materials and M badging across key touchpoints, highlighting its sporty credentials. Drive modes including Efficient, Sport, and Sport Plus allow the driver to tailor throttle response, steering, and suspension behaviour.
At the heart of the M2 is a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder twin-turbocharged petrol engine. The motor develops 453 hp (approx. 473 bhp) at 6,250 rpm, with torque rated at 550 Nm in the six-speed manual variant and 600 Nm in the eight-speed automatic. This results in a 0–100 kmph sprint time of just 4 seconds with the automatic and 4.2 seconds with the manual. Top speed is electronically capped at 250 kmph, extendable to 285 kmph with the optional M Driver’s Package. BMW’s engineering ensures strong mid-range performance, with maximum torque available across a wide rev band, offering flexibility for both spirited drives and relaxed cruising.
BMW M2: Mileage
The BMW M2 prioritises performance over efficiency, and while official Indian mileage figures have not been specified, the coupe’s expected fuel economy aligns with other high-performance petrol sports cars in its class. Buyers can anticipate single-digit mileage figures depending on driving style and conditions.
BMW M2: Safety
The BMW M2 integrates BMW’s suite of safety technologies, combining electronic aids with performance-oriented systems. Standard safety features include Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Automatic Stability Control (ASC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), and M Dynamic Mode (MDM) for track use. Additional functions such as Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and Dry Braking enhance confidence in varying conditions. Multiple airbags and a rigid chassis structure ensure occupant protection, aligning with BMW’s safety standards.
BMW M2: Rivals
In India, the BMW M2 rivals the Audi RS5, Porsche 718 Cayman, and the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe. Each offers a unique mix of performance, style, and heritage, but the M2 stands out as one of the most accessible true M cars, appealing to purists who value compact dimensions paired with strong six-cylinder performance.
