Triumph Motorcycles is preparing to expand its entry-level lineup with a new café racer model, following the market introduction of the Scrambler 400 X and Speed 400. This new model, believed to be called the Triumph Thruxton 400, has been seen undergoing road tests in Navi Mumbai, though it has not yet been officially unveiled or launched.
The Thruxton 400 is set to inherit the classic café racer design lineage, targeting a global audience. It is expected to carry forward the Thruxton nameplate in a more accessible displacement segment following the global discontinuation of the Thruxton 1200 in late 2024.
While Triumph has not yet revealed official variants or pricing details, the Thruxton 400 is expected to be positioned slightly above the Speed 400. Preliminary estimates suggest an ex-showroom price of approximately ₹2.55 lakh in Delhi. The final pricing and variant structure are likely to be announced closer to its expected launch, which is projected for November 2025.
The Thruxton 400 is expected to be launched in India sometime around November 2025.
The Thruxton 400 adopts a retro-inspired café racer design, distinguished from the Speed 400 through the use of a bullet-style semi-fairing, clip-on handlebars, and a bubble visor. These elements collectively reference the aesthetic language of the larger Speed Triple 1200 RR. The prototype also features a revised tail section with a rear seat cowl, contributing to its single-seat sport styling. Bar-end mirrors replace traditional stalk mirrors, and overall bodywork remains minimalistic and streamlined.
In terms of features, the café racer is expected to retain the analogue-digital instrument cluster from the Speed 400, along with a full-LED lighting setup. Dual-channel ABS will be standard, and other electronic features are likely to be shared across the 400 cc platform.
The Thruxton 400 will be driven by the same 398 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine currently employed in the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X. This engine delivers a maximum power of 39.5 bhp at 8,000 rpm and peak torque of 37.5 Nm at 6,500 rpm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. There has been no indication of any mechanical tuning changes for this model, although chassis geometry such as rake and trail may be altered to provide sportier, more committed dynamics in line with its café racer ergonomics.
The Thruxton 400’s closest cafe racer rival is the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250. Other rivals in the 300-400 cc range within a similar price bracket include the KTM 390 Duke, Honda CB300R, and BMW G 310 R.
