Royal Enfield Scram 440: Launch Date

The Scram 440 was officially launched in India on January 22, 2025. Prior to its market launch, the motorcycle made its public debut at Motoverse 2024. With this update, Royal Enfield has effectively phased out the long-running 411 cc platform, replacing it with a revised and enlarged powertrain. While the Scram 440 continues to use the same basic chassis architecture as its predecessor, it now features a reworked rear subframe. This updated subframe uses a revised steel composition to improve rigidity and enhance load-carrying capability. Visual updates include the addition of an LED headlamp and indicators, along with the introduction of five new paint options: Force Blue, Force Teal, Force Grey, Trail Green, and Trail Blue.

Royal Enfield Scram 440: Variants and Colours

The Scram 440 is offered in two variants: Trail and Force. The Trail variant, priced at 2.08 lakh (ex-showroom), comes with spoked wheels and is available in Blue and Green colour options. The Force variant, which costs 2.15 lakh (ex-showroom), features alloy wheels, includes the Tripper navigation pod, and is offered in three colours—Blue, Grey, and Teal. Mechanically, both variants are identical, with differences limited to wheels, equipment, and colour choices.

Royal Enfield Scram 440: Features

The Royal Enfield Scram 440 continues to offer a choice between spoked wheels and alloy wheels, with the latter allowing the use of tubeless tyres. The motorcycle now gets an LED headlamp as standard, bringing it in line with Royal Enfield’s newer models. Instrumentation is handled by the familiar semi-digital analogue cluster carried over from the previous Scram, while turn-by-turn navigation is enabled via the optional Tripper Pod. Additional functional updates include a USB Type-A charging port and switchable ABS, allowing the rear ABS to be disengaged during off-road riding.

The motorcycle rides on a 19-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, shod with dual-purpose tyres. Ground clearance remains at 200 mm, while the seat height is set at 795 mm, aimed at offering a manageable riding position across varied riding conditions. The kerb weight is rated at 196 kg for both spoked and alloy wheel versions.

Royal Enfield Scram 440: Engine, Performance, and Specifications

Powering the Royal Enfield Scram 440 is a 443 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine paired with a six-speed gearbox. This updated engine produces 25.4 bhp at 6,250 rpm and 34 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. Compared to the outgoing 411 cc motor, the bore has been increased by 3 mm, resulting in a claimed 4.5 percent increase in power and a 6.5 percent improvement in torque. Royal Enfield has also introduced a new pull-type clutch, which is said to improve durability while reducing clutch lever effort by approximately 0.75 kg.

The Scram 440 is built around a split cradle frame. Suspension duties are handled by 41 mm telescopic front forks offering 190 mm of travel and a rear monoshock with 180 mm of travel. Braking hardware includes a 300 mm front disc and a 240 mm rear disc, supported by dual-channel ABS with the option to switch off rear-wheel intervention for off-road use.

Royal Enfield Scram 440: Dimensions and Weight

The Scram 440 maintains a ground clearance of 200 mm and a seat height of 795 mm. The kerb weight stands at 196 kg, irrespective of the wheel configuration chosen.

Royal Enfield Scram 440: Rivals

In the Indian market, the Royal Enfield Scram 440 competes directly with motorcycles such as the Triumph Scrambler 400 X and the Yezdi Scrambler, both of which target buyers looking for a road-biased scrambler with light off-road capability.
