TVS Motor Company launches 110 cc Jupiter

Two and three wheeler maker TVS Motor Company today launched its latest 110 cc offering 'Jupiter', in a bid to strengthen its presence in the scooter segment.

This is the fourth product from the city-based company, after the highly popular Scooty Pep, Scooty Streak and Wego models.

The scooter's powertrain generates maximum power of 5.88 kW (8 bhp). It has a five litre fuel tank and the company claims it will give a mileage of 62 kmpl.

It has 17 litres under seat storage facility and comes with 'body balance' technology and large alloy wheels.

The Jupiter will be available in four colours -- Titanium Grey, Mercury White, Midnight Black and Volcano Red.

According to TVS Motor Company President and CEO, K Radhakrishnan, the vehicle is feature rich and has best in class performance.

'This is a first scooter which we promised that we will launch this year.', he told reporters after unveiling the scooter.

Chairman and Managing Director Venu Srinivasan said the scooter segment is growing 14 per cent year on year.

'The product will be available in North India today. It will be launched in South India by November. The ex-showroom price in New Delhi ₹ 44,200', he said.

'We are confident that this will be the best launch (for TVS). Every quarter from now you can expect a new product from TVS,', he said.

'Yes. It will cannibalise Wego. We are looking at selling 30,000 units (of both Wego and Jupiter) by March 2014,' he said in reply to a question.

He said the company would also look at exports later.

To a query, Srinivasan said the company would launch Scooty Zest by January 2014.
