Toyota GT86 named Top Gear Car of the Year 2012
The Top Gear awards for 2012, among the most prestigious in the motoring industry, honored Toyota, Ferrari, VW, Ford and Fiat.
The Toyota GT86, which offers supercar handling and looks without the hefty price tag, was not only named Car of the Year, it was also named Coupe of the Year and outspoken motoring journalist and TV personality Jeremy Clarkson's personal Car of the year in the annual awards ceremony in association with the long-running BBC TV program.

Other big winners included Ferrari, who won best supercar for the F12 Berlinetta; Ford, whose Ford Focus ST estate became the first station wagon to win the Hot Hatch of the Year award; the Fiat Panda 4x4 which, somewhat controversially, was named SUV of the Year (despite strong competition from the new Range Rover); and Volkswagen.
Its latest Golf was honored with the much-coveted All the Car You'll Ever Need Award.
Every TopGear Magazine Award is judged by a group of expert and extremely opinionated motoring journalists, including the presenters of the Top Gear TV show. The tests that competing vehicles are put through are more demanding and imaginative than the typical road tests favored by other publications and television shows. For example, the Ford Focus was driven around Moscow to measure its performance simultaneously in different metrological and driving conditions. Meanwhile, the Toyota was pitched against McLarens and Porsches to see if it could truly keep up with supercar competition.
