This Beemer won’t go unnoticed
Even though the BMW S 1000 RR lacks any form of accomplished racing pedigree, it is obvious to even a rookie rider that this bike spares nothing in terms of the lofty targets set by the manufacturer. The S 1000 RR isn't one to go unnoticed in a crowd and the front engine pairing manages this with aplomb, while the lower portion uses a matte black finish with the test bike coming in the tricolour livery.
Well constructed
Extensive use of light and expensive materials like magnesium for the clutch cover, an aluminium fuel tank and minimal panel thickness keep the RR's weight down to 206kg with a full tank of fuel. The S 1000 RR proves to be mild and easy to get along with and in the pre-programmed 'rain' mode. Three other modes — Sport, Race and Slick — deliver the full blast of 193bhp and throttle response keeps progressing towards sharper.
Turns with confidence
First impressions suggest the seating position is as comfortable as it gets in this class. At low speeds, the RR feels easy and hassle-free to steer. As speeds build up, the calm and no-nonsense character builds up. The BMW also turns with great confidence. It is direct and agile without ever feeling nervy. The suspension is surprisingly adept at dealing with even far-from-smooth roads. Neither bumpy nor lumpy surfaces jar or throw the rider around in the saddle.
