Suzuki CEO writes to Manesar staff, offers support

Breaking his silence after almost a fortnight, Suzuki Motor Corporation CEO Osamu Suzuki on Monday wrote a letter to all employees at Maruti Suzuki expressing his condolences to the relatives of senior human resource executive Awanish Kumar Dev, who died during the riots at the Manesar factory on July 18.

The main purport of his letter was that in future, the company would be careful while recruiting factory workers.

Suzuki said the assault was unlawful and the culprits should be recognised as enemies of the society. SMC owns 54% stake in Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car manufacturer.

"I strongly support all of you to overcome the incident and make a re-borned Manesar plant and a very new Maruti Suzuki," Suzuki said in his letter. "The group of people who tried to kill our colleagues should be recognised as enemies of the society and strictly adjudged and punished by laws."

A group of around 600 workers at the twin Manesar factories that produce around 6 lakh Maruti cars per annum, went on a rampage on July 18, killing Dev and injuring at least 100 other executives and managers.

Maruti has been forced to announce a lock out at the facilities since July 21. It has said that production will not re-start till the investigations into the case ended.
