Scania Commercial Vehicle (SCV), manufacturers of trucks and buses for heavy transport, today launched its new range of buses and coaches for the first time in the country.

First deliveries to customers by Scania will take place in mid-2013 and assembly of complete coaches will start at Scania's new facility in Bengaluru in early 2014.

Speaking at a press conference, Andrers Grundstromer, MD, Scania India & Senior Vice President Scania Group, said the Scania Metrolink is introduced exclusively for the Indian market. In a few years' time, the scania metrolink will grow into a global range of complete vehicles with network support.

Scania will invest 2.5 bn in an industrial facility in Bengaluru, India being the center of the company's commercial operation. Scania's target is to sell about 2,000 trucks, 1000 coaches per year in the Indian market within next few years, said Henrik Fagrenius, Executive Regional Director for the Southern Africa, Asia and Oceania (AAO) region, Scania Group Management.

Scania Metrolink bus is offered in two and three-axle, based on modular bodywork in the Indian market, with styling, parallel opening doors that provide easy acces. Mertolink model have 45-seater, 49-seater and 53 seater with full comfort, said Krister Thulin, MD Buses & Coaches, Scania Commercial Vechicles India.

In 2011, Scania established its own company in India in order to boost its presence in additional segments of the Indian commercial vehicle market. Scania recently launched a new range of on road haulage truck models, specially adapted for Indian market.
