Opel unveils Adam Rocks S, a sportier version of its crossover
At AutoRAI in Amsterdam, the German brand has unveiled the latest addition to its Adam range, a mini-crossover with 150hp. Opel has yet to announce pricing and availability details.
The new Adam Rocks S is powered by the same 1.4-liter, 150hp turbocharged engine as the Adam S, launched in March, so its performance stats are similar (210km/h top speed and 0 to 100km/h acceleration in 8.5 seconds). In terms of fuel efficiency, Opel says the new model consumes 5.9 liters per 100km, which is equivalent to CO2 emissions of 139g/km. A more off-road style and a built-in multimedia system are among the features that distinguish the Adam Rocks S from older brother.

A customizable and connected city car
Premiered at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the Adam is a tech-savvy and fully customizable city car named for the brand's founder, Adam Opel. The model was the first to be outfitted with Opel's next-generation infotainment system, which can be used with iOS and Android smartphones to bring certain apps, including navigation services, to a 7-inch color touch screen. On the market since March 2013, the Adam is positioned as a direct competitor to the Mini, the Volkswagen Up! and the Fiat 500, among other small city cars.
At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Opel revealed a new mini-crossover concept based on the Adam and offering a similar degree of customization. One year later, the concept was introduced as a production vehicle, the Adam Rocks, a more off-road version somewhat reminiscent of the Renault Captur. The Adam Rocks is equipped with the latest version of the Opel IntelliLink multimedia system, which combines a 7-inch display with a 7-speaker audio system.
During summer 2013, the German manufacturer announced the Adam Black Link and Adam White Link, two special editions of 2,000 cars featuring the IntelliLink system and the SIRI Eyes Free voice control system.
Finally, last fall, Opel announced plans to launch a new, sportier version of the Adam S city car this spring. The new model will feature a 150hp engine, a more performance-focused chassis and brakes, and sporty red brake calipers.
