On diesel high, Honda set to take on Ertiga

Flush with the success of its recently launched entry-level sedan Amaze, Japanese car major Honda has fast tracked its plans to launch a seven-seater multi purpose vehicle (MPV) to compete with Maruti Ertiga.
The car, based on the same platform as the Amaze, was recently showcased in Indonesia and would be launched there in September, and will hit India early next year. This would be Honda's second diesel offering in the market.

"We are considering launching the vehicle in India early next year," said Jnaneswar Sen, senior Vice President sales and marketing, Honda Cars India. "India could be the second market after Indonesia to get this car. It will be offered both in petrol and diesel."

Priced at R6.52-8.70 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), Ertiga was Maruti's first MUV and fifth best selling car in India in 2012-13.
Honda's MPV however is likely to be more expensive. The company has been on a high, ducking the industry trend of slowdown with a 45% sales increase so far this year. Amaze sold over 18,000 units of the 30,000-unit total sales.
