New Volkswagen Polo GTI to pack 192hp

Volkswagen has released details on the fourth-generation Polo GTI, which will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October before going on sale in early 2015.

Powered by a new 1.8-liter TSI engine with 192hp, the 2015 Polo GTI has gained 12hp compared to the outgoing model. The motor may be paired with an automatic 7-speed transmission or a manual 6-speed one. Volkswagen touts 0 to 100km/h acceleration in 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 236km/h.

Special shock absorbers, a tailgate spoiler, red GTI badges, a sports steering wheel and sports seats are among the features setting the model apart from the standard Polo.

Among the options are LED headlights, a 'Sport Select' chassis with electronic active damping control, and a 'Sport Performance' system, which promises to activate performance-focused settings at the touch of a button.

Volkswagen launched its restyled Polo in spring 2014 and has since introduced multiple versions, namely the Polo TSI BlueMotion, TDI BlueMotion, BlueGT and CrossPolo.
