Merc ramps up India drive with Rs.1.5 cr SUV

German luxury auto maker Mercedes Benz on Tuesday launched its most expensive SUV, the G63 AMG priced at Rs.1.46 cr, in India. HT reports.

German luxury auto maker Mercedes Benz on Tuesday launched its most expensive SUV, the G63 AMG priced at 1.46 cr, in India.

Mercedes which slipped to third place in the luxury car segment in 2012, is brushing up its product portfolio in a push to return to the top.

Last year, the company's sales had dropped by 4% to 7,138 units as Audi zoomed past it with 64% jump to 9,003 units. BMW remained at the top with 9,375 units.

Mercedes Benz India's CEO Eberhard Kern said: "This year we will go on the offensive with frequent product launches which will drive volumes."

The company is planning to launch at least four more vehicles this year.

It will also launch the diesel versions of its compact multipurpose vehicle B Class by May, and its small car, the A Class, later this year, eyeing volumes.
