Maruti still a big investor for Haryana: Industries minister

Haryana industries minister Randeep Singh Surjewala on Tuesday denied that auto giant Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) was shifting base from Haryana to Gujarat.

Addressing mediapersons, the minister said that MSIL still remains one of the biggest investors in Haryana.

'The car manufacturer has made an on ground investment worth ₹7000 crore in Haryana. Since 2005, MSIL has invested ₹6500 crore on setting up of two plants in Manesar and an investment of ₹500 crore had been made on setting up another plant -- Suzuki Power Terrain Limited. We have no objection if MSIL as a part of its business plan wants to establish new units near ports (in Gujarat) for facilitating exports,' Surjewala said.

The minister said that MSIL has been allotted 600 acres in Industrial Model Township, Rohtak where a Research and Development Testing Centre was being be set by with an investment of ₹1700 crore. 'Chairman of Suzuki Motors Corporation O Suzuki during recently held Indo-Japan Summit had asked chief minister, BS Hooda an additional 100 acres in IMT Rohtak for setting up of auto component ancillary units,' he said.

Terming statements of opposition as completely incorrect and baseless, Surjewala said that certain Haryana politicians were trying to make capital by issuing statements on MSIL's Gujarat venture. 'INLD chief Om Parkash Chautala and his party was trying to halt the economic growth of the state by misleading people. Let me remind that industrial units had closed shops only during Chautala's reign from 1999 to 2005,' he said.
