If you'd want to define the Aston Martin Rapide in a line, it would be: a front-engine supercar, stretched to accommodate a pair of small rear doors and seats. But the Rapide is actually a bit more complex than that. Offering an over-the-shoulder supercar pillion experience to riders in the backseat, it emulates the Aston Martin experience, which adds luxury and comfort.

Luxurious seating

Once snugly fit in the backseat, one experiences an overriding feel of being lifted to environment that is built to the highest standards. Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Audi offer this experience. The electronic hand-brake lever is made of heavy cast iron, the buttons on the central console to control the automatic gearbox work effortlessly.

Aston has tuned its sublime 6,000cc V12 to suit the Rapide's more soothing personality and it develops 470bhp at 6,000rpm. But the numbers don't matter.

Drifts like a charm

What sets this motor apart is its effortless and smooth maneuvering. Squeeze the pedal harder and the Rapide prances ahead, while the rear wheels and traction control system plant it firmly on the road. The note of the big V12 hardens past 3,500rpm, and the engine now pulls even harder with a smooth V12 snarl.

The steering is also direct — light at low speeds, but weighs-up while turning corners. For a Grand Turismo like this, the impressive ride quality is perfect for Indian conditions. This allows you to use a lot more of the performance of this car.
