Taking a leaf out of Chevrolet's tension-building text book, the Japanese luxury carmaker has also chosen to release only an image of the vehicle's wheel in order to whet fans' appetites.

Lexus promises that the car -- the unveiling of which will be streamed live via the internet -- has been designed from the ground up and will carry on the tradition of speed and performance associated with the 'F' badge.

Thanks to unnamed sources and spy shots, as well as one or two clues in the teaser image, we can deduce that this looks like it's going to be the long-anticipated RCF sports model.

So as well as being an aggressively styled two-door coupé with the same front grille that puts the viewer in mind of the Cylons from the original 'Battlestar Galactica' sci-fi series of the late 1970s, it's also going to be rather potent thanks to a 5-liter 455bph V8.

However, to see the car in full, fans and potential customers will have to wait until Lexus's official press event on January 13 which can be followed online at http://www.lexus-int.com/.
