Hyundai's all-new Santa Fe SUV is set for a debut at the 2014 New Delhi Auto Expo in February. This next-generation car has been developed on an all-new platform and is larger than the car it will replace - it is 40mm longer and 5mm wider, although the roofline is 45mm lower and it retains the same 2,700mm wheelbase. The new Santa Fe will also carry over Hyundai's powerful and refined 2.2-litre VGT (variable-geometry turbo) diesel engine from the current model.

The power and torque figures remain unchanged but the engine has received minor upgrades for better fuel efficiency and lower emissions. Buyers will have the option of a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission, while the on-demand four-wheel-drive system will be standard.

To ensure the success of its new SUV, Hyundai will bring the costs down by localising assembly at its plant in Chennai, and in doing so, will be able to offer competitive pricing.

To compete head on with the segment leader, the Toyota Fortuner, the Santa Fe is expected to retail at a lower price, and combined with a long list of features and Hyundai's striking new design language, it will aim to offer an irresistible value package.
