Gran Turismo - a concept car factory
A veritable laboratory for automobile manufacturers around the world, the 'Gran Turismo 6' video game just added a new model by Volkswagen to its fleet. The GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo joins a long list of virtual models specifically created for the franchise and downloadable by gamers for free.
The GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo is presented as a race car equipped with a transversally mounted VR6 TSI engine producing 503hp and about 490p/f torque. The six-cylinder spins all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission. The Supersport claims acceleration from 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds and tops out at nearly 190mph. It is already available in several colors, including 'Reflex Silver', 'Gran Turismo Red', 'Lapiz Blue' or 'Oryx White.'

The Gran Turismo series is a pioneer in collaborating with brands to release original models. In its latest version alone, it assembled a multitude of original creations, from the BMW Gran Turismo to the Mazda LM55, along with the Nissan Concept 2020, the Chevrolet Chaparral 2X VGT, the Peugeot Vision GT and the Mini Clubman Vision Gran Turismo. However, one of the most spectacular original models in Gran Turismo 6 is without a doubt the Red Bull X2014, imagined by Adrian Newey, the greatest genius in F1 these last 25 years. It followed the X2010 and X2011 from 'Gran Turismo 5.'
From virtual to real
Some of these models occasionally lead to real concept cars exhibited at international auto shows. That was the case, for example, of the Volkswagen Golf Design Vision GTI, presented at the Wörthersee Festival in Austria in 2013, the Mercedes AMG Vision Gran Turismo in Los Angeles the same year and the Aston Martin DP-100 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England in 2014.
The latest example, surely also the most spectacular, is the Alpine Vision Gran Turismo, a full-size prototype of which was presented in the presence of the game's creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, at a preview of the International Automobile Festival in Paris in January 2015. Alpine, which celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2015, developed a carbon fiber monocoque prototype with power provided by a 4.5 litre V8 engine delivering a total of 450hp.
'Gran Turismo 6' counts a fleet of 1200 vehicles.
