Italian supercar maker Ferrari continues to rack up awards at the same rate at which one of its customers collects speeding tickets. Its V8-powered 458 Spider was announced best cabriolet and its V12-powered big brother, the F12 Berlinetta, was named Best Coupe at this year's L'Automobile Magazine Best Cars 2013 awards.
The honors, from one of France's most respected automotive publications, brings the number of international awards for the marquee up to 25 in the last 12 months. But the awards are deserved as the current Ferrari line-up is one of the strongest in living memory in terms of power, performance, choice and looks. The 458 has set new standards in terms of what can be expected from a mid-engined V8 car, while the F12 Berlinetta offers the same levels of speed and performance that could only be found in the range-topping Enzo hypercar several years ago.
Expect the prancing horse to continue to clean up in terms of awards when it officially unveils its long-awaited F70 at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The replacement for the Enzo, which ceased production in 2004, the F70 is rumored to combine environmental responsibility with the latest Formula 1 technology. It is expected to weigh less than 1,100kg and use a hybrid V12 engine that will pump out a scarcely believable 800hp plus a KERS energy regeneration unit that can pump out an additional 120hp in short bursts. It is also widely anticipated that it will consume 40% less fuel than the Enzo, despite being almost twice as powerful.
