Corvette Z06 heading for Detroit

Described by Chevrolet as the most 'track-capable' Vette in history, it is expected to turn heads and set pulses racing when it is officially unveiled at next month's North American International Auto Show.
In fact, Chevrolet is so concerned about the ill effects that any premature excitement could cause that it has only released a teaser image of the car's wheel, just to be on the safe side. Anything more and those with a heart condition and a love of Corvettes may have had to seek medical assistance.

Despite so little visual information, what is clear is that with the latest iteration of the snarling, growling Corvette flagship, Chevrolet really wants to offer a viable American alternative to the Italian, German and British supercars currently on the market, hence the company's talk of powertrains, aerodynamics and chassis improvements.
The company has also started talking about Nürburgring lap times when discussing its most potent cars because it knows that a seven-minute lap time is crucial if it wants to attract Porsche or Ferrari owners to its brand.
However, Corvette is yet to reveal the ZO6's lap time or exactly what potential owners can expect under the hood. Hopefully it's on a par with the last model which, thanks to a supercharger, was faster and more powerful than a Ferrari Enzo, yet cheaper than a top spec Porsche 911.
