Citroën has confirmed that it will premiere its next-generation C1 at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Available as a three-door or five-door model, the city car is based on the same platform as the new Peugeot 108 and the new Toyota Aygo II, both also slated to make their debut in Switzerland this March.

The new C1 will offer keyless entry and a remote keyless ignition system, meaning that it will be possible to start the engine while the key is still in your pocket. The city car will also come with hill-start assist, which provides a boost when starting on an incline of 3 percent or steeper.

An optional 7-inch touchscreen tablet can be used to control the stereo system, access the on-board computer, and view images from the back-up assist camera. Using a technology dubbed Mirror Screen, the tablet can also duplicate all of the content and apps on a smartphone, allowing users to control their device through the touch screen.

Among the engine configurations available on the C1 is a new 1.2L VTi fuel engine with 82hp and fuel consumption of just 4.3L/100km, with emissions of just 99g of CO2 per km. This powertrain enables the C1 to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 11 seconds.

Citroën is offering the new C1 with a choice between a standard metal roof and a power rollback fabric roof for the Airscape version.

The Citroën C1 will share the spotlight with the C4 Cactus crossover on the French carmaker's stand in Geneva.

The brand reports sales of over 760,000 cars since launching the Citroën C1 in 2005. This second-generation C1 is expected to roll into dealerships from June 2014.
