The UK hasn't played host to a recognized motor show since 2008. But all of that is set to change, with an all-new event putting the focus on greener motoring and on road safety.

From 2016 London will be returning to carmakers' annual event schedules, and the first new show is planned for May of that year and will be held at Battersea Park.

The announcement was made at the Guild of Motoring Writers' annual dinner by HRH Prince Michael of Kent this week. He said that wheels were already in motion to bring a show to London that will rank alongside Geneva or Frankfurt and that the first event would be focused on electric and hybrid vehicles and on road safety.

Just like the aforementioned Geneva, the British International Motor Show was once a firmly established event on the automotive calendar. However due to the financial crisis plans for a 2010 event were axed and the event has since been mothballed.
