BMW, Merc and Audi think small in luxury car race


It is a volume game. Top German luxury carmakers -BMW, Mercedes Benz and Audi - have shed their high-end image to think small for volume sales in India. It all started with the BMW's X1, a sporty SUV at a price of ₹22 lakh a year ago. Audi countered with a yet-unpriced compact SUV Q3, Mercedes Benz's GLC compact SUV is still sometime away.
At the expo, Mercedes launched the imported open-top SLS AMG Roadster and the new M Class. Audi introduced S6 and top-end SUV Q7 V12. BMW launched Supersport M5 and a limited -edition 7 series.

Debasis Mitra, director, sales and marketing, Mercedes Benz India, said, 'The real volume game will start only by 2015-16 when all three will have their total line-up ready.'
