BMW 1 Series design patented in India. Will it make a comeback?
- BMW 1 Series now looks sleeker and meaner than the generation that was on sale in the Indian market.
BMW has recently filed a design patent for the 1 Series in the Indian market. The huxury hatchback was discontinued in India around 8 years back. It used to be the most affordable BMW in the Indian market but was not able to gather many takers so of which it was discontinued. With the patent filed now, there is a possibility that BMW might bring back the 1 Series to the Indian market.
The current generation of the 1 Series was unveiled globally back in June last year. It is the fourth generation of 1 Series which essentially uses underpinnings of the third generation. However, BMW worked extensively on redesigning the hatchback.

It retains BMW's iconic kidney grille but it is now redesigned. The headlamps are sharper and the new bumper is slimmer. Depending on the variant, the grille and bumper design is different.
On the sides, there is a new set of alloy wheels that look sharp and modern. At the rear, there is a new set of LED tail lamps which is now divided into two parts. There is a new bumper that gets a diffuser as well for the M Sport models.
In terms of dimensions, the 2025 1 Series is longer by 42 mm and taller by 25 mm. The length now measures 4,361 mm, the width is 1,800 mm and the height is 1,459 mm.

The LED headlamps are equipped with an adaptive function, and BMW additionally provides cornering lights and blue accents as optional features. The optional M Sport Package, along with the M Sport Design equipment available in Europe, enhances the dynamic appeal of the new BMW 1-Series. Notable M-specific design elements comprise substantial air intakes on the front apron, prominent side skirts, and a three-dimensional diffuser element located in the rear apron.
The interior gets BMW's 20-inch curved display which is now controlled via touch screen and runs on OS 9 software. The digital instrument cluster measures 10.7-inch whereas the touchscreen infotainment system measures 10.3 inches. The iDrive controller is no longer available instead, the driver has to control everything via touchscreen. In fact, the infotainment controls are also now embedded into the screen itself.
At the top of the model range is the BMW M135 xDrive. It is powered by a four-cylinder engine that puts out 298 bhp of max power. It helps the hatchback to accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 4.9 seconds.
